Social Networking Makes Us Smarter
By Andrew M Nathan

Social networking has become a way to not only connect with friends and family, but also to learn and grow with people that you know and how they acquire their knowledge.

Whenever you have a question, people can now turn to their social network for advice and find out what they know to help you with whatever questions that you might have. For example, I was looking to find out about a lending program for my real estate business. I put a post on Facebook about what I needed and received two responses within the hour from a mortgage lender and real estate investor who were able to give me guidance for my question.

That is how social networking is changing the way we acquire knowledge. We no longer just Google our questions about a subject, but can also go to our network for questions. LinkedIn and Yahoo have question and answer sections that specifically address the idea that you network can be your primary source for answers. People who use them have a great benefit over those who solely rely upon search engines, such as Google or Yahoo.

The more in-depth questions can sometimes be answered on Facebook and Twitter. This means that we have truly become an information based society, since all citizens can now be information sources, and our knowledge for everyone will then be greater. It is an exciting time, because the fact that we will come to rely on our peers for information rather than a remote source is exciting, because it promises that we must connect with each other and be social to become smarter.
