Kids Birthday Party Secrets - 3 Things to Keep in Mind With Control Issues

Filed under: Social Networking — @ 6:06 am

Your kid’s birthday party is something he or she looks forward to every year. So, it is your responsibility to ensure a celebration to remember. But since you may be dealing with youngsters, toddlers for instance, who love to create a ruckus, you need to keep things under control, without playing spoilsport. However, maintaining the balance between discipline and fun can be really challenging. If you want to know some secrets which might make your job easier, reading on is a must!

Get Help!

No matter how confident you are of keeping the rug-rats under check, you should definitely seek more adults to supervise the party. This is because you cannot be in two places at once and when you are in the middle of something, grave mischief could be happening elsewhere. You can,

• Ask your responsible teenaged son or daughter to help you

• Request parents, of some other kids, you know well, to assist you.

• Hire one or two babysitters, to manage the show, particularly if the kids are all very young.

They can help with the games, the food and beverages, the cake distribution and the kids’ toilet trips. Don’t be shy in asking for help, and certainly don’t be overconfident. A bunch of kids can give you a nasty surprise!

Manners Rule

If you have set of manners your child maintains, make sure that they are not shunned during the party either. Children generally behave in the same way as the birthday boy or girl is conducting himself or herself. Ask your child to be polite while receiving presents and thank everyone for their gifts.

Give her the additional responsibility of being the ‘host’ for the evening. Children love it when they are given responsibility and this will also ensure a calm evening for you.

Safety First!

For the party to be conducted without calamity, you must ensure the safety of the kids. All hell may break loose if an accident happens at your party. Use Mylar balloons because rubber ones are a major choking hazard. You should also keep all electronic or hazardous devices out of reach of children.

Just remember that with a bit of extra effort, you can keep things under total control.

What’s a Birthday Without Memorable Birthday Speeches?

Filed under: Social Networking — @ 6:06 am

Have a person in your life who is facing a coming 50th birthday with maybe a little trepidation? Do they have the ability to poke fun at themselves? Give them an hilarious gag 50th birthday gift, or two, that will point out the lighter side of getting older!

1) Is your friend a literary sort of person? How about a poem to mark this particular occasion? One that humorously addresses this landmark date is sure to lift spirits and get a chuckle. Not a poet yourself? Find a store that has great gag poems that you can personalize with a few lines and add the person’s name right into the body of the poem! Framed and displayed on a wall or table, it will give them a smile every time every time they pass by!

2) You can assemble a small “cosmetics assistance to aging” gift basket. You’ll be able to easily buy some coarse sand paper at your local hardware store. When properly labeled, it becomes instant wrinkle remover! A jar of hair styling gel relabeled converts to hair replenishing tonic. You can get some large plastic tweezers and label them for those ear hairs that are sure to crop up. Transparent surgical tape is an easy find. Packaged & labeled with directions, this becomes “instant facelift” when applied at the hairline! Then there is suntan lotion can be labeled “specifically for that approaching bald spot” What about an ace bandage with directions to wrap around the jaw, over the head to help keep that jaw line taut! (It also helps with snoring by keeping the person’s mouth closed at night!!)

3) How about a 50th birthday t shirt they’ll love wearing with a positive slogan about turning 50? Or maybe an over-the-hill shirt that lists all those things we know are happening (or going to happen!) but will do so in a way that makes your aging loved one laugh!

4) If you want to choose something a bit more out of the ordinary to give that wonderful birthday guy or gal, how about a vanity license plate that proclaims how special life is after 50? Or if your birthday person is a golfer, some golf balls that not only say Happy Birthday, but how fabulous it is to be 50!

5) When buying a gift or making one, print out labels for them using extra fine print. (it’s easy to find labels at an office supply place, or bring in to be printed). Then as the person squints to read it (my, how suddenly we need those bifocals!) produce a magnifying glass wrapped up with a ribbon. This will not just come in handy for this delightfully funny gift, but as a useful tool in the years to come!

How to Succeed With Social Networking

How to Succeed With Social Networking
By John Coates

Social networking has been all of the buzz in the Internet marketing world for the last several years. At first it represented a vague approach to visiting a new class of websites and trying to establish a presence for your business or website on them. These networks are collectively known as the world of web 2.0, otherwise known as social networking or social media sites. We now know that one of the keys to generating traffic to your website can be found through these new channels.

A social networking site is any website, service or tool on the Internet today that makes use of community interaction, placing a premium on the user to create his or her own content, to share it with others and to connect with other users. Many of the most popular websites on the world today fall into this spectrum, from Facebook to Twitter to YouTube. So how can these be used to be successful at generating traffic for your online business?

The problem that most people encounter is that they expect to be able to log on to one of these services, create an account and expect a viral storm of traffic on their doorstep the next day. While social networking for generating traffic can be simple, it’s not that simple, and you do need to apply some more effort than that in order to succeed.

The number one rule is that you cannot expect one of these services to be an outlet for your advertisements or for your press releases. You can’t just walk out there, spewing about your company and expect to see results. What you need to do is become a real member of the community - that’s what social networking is all about isn’t it? You need to actively participate in discussions, reply to posts, follow what other people are saying, add people to your friends list, create and join groups and more.

When you do all of this you create a real presence for yourself that can lead to generating traffic the likes of which you’ve never seen before. You’ll become a real, respected voice in your community and people who feel the same way about the same issues will follow you and end up checking up on your website. Even if you’re not voicing strong opinions you can still reach out to others by just getting out there, making yourself known and connecting with as many other people on the service that you can.

Social networking is all about using the web to connect with other people, and to share your own voice. Businesses therefore have been eager to tap into this massive force for many reasons, including generating traffic back to their websites. Many have failed because they simply do not understand the basics - that you really need to participate and get involved. If you can master this concept and actively engage your community, then you’ll succeed with social networking.

Are You a Target For Social Networking Identity Theft?

Are You a Target For Social Networking Identity Theft?
By Identi Adver

Social networking. Most of us do it. For some of us it’s an addiction. But it can be dangerous. Social networking identity theft is on the rise as more and more identity thieves adapt to this increasingly easy way to steal your identity. Once they have your identity, the sky’s the limit. They can drain your bank account, run up your credit, and virtually destroy you financially. And it all starts with some “innocent” communication online.

The social networking statistics are in, and they aren’t pretty. According to PC World, one third of members of social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and MySpace have at least three pieces of personal information posted on their profile that can make stealing their identity easy for identity thieves. These include full names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, names of parents, and names of children. When pieced together, this information makes it as easy as creating a fake profile on one of these sites.

Although nearly 80% of people in the PC World poll said they were concerned about their privacy on social networking sites, about 60% said they had no idea what their privacy settings were and who could see their personal information on those sites.

Scary statistics? Yes. A playground for it? You bet.

Social Networking Identity Theft: Prevention Tips

Follow these tips to avoid becoming a victim of social networking identity theft:

Personal Information: How much do you want the world to know about you? Remember: Your friends aren’t just finding you on Facebook. Social networking identity theft scammers may be seeking you out as well. Keep your personal information safe by not posting your full name, birthday, address, phone number, and other private information that could be used to find you. Don’t even think about posting seemingly harmless information like when you’ll be out of town or when you’re at the gym. A growing is to identify when you’re gone and then pounce to break-in and rob your home. Sound crazy? It happens all the time. Think before you tweet “Going on vacation for a week.”

Learn the Rules: All social networking sites are different and they all have their own rules. It scammers take advantage of this vulnerability and prey on you before you even know what happened. They know the faster they get to you, the faster they can rob you. Before you register with a site, read the privacy policy and terms of use to avoid becoming another victim of it.

Restrict Access: You’re in control. Always remember that. You don’t have to share everything to the world. Most social networking sites allow you to restrict access to your page so only “real friends” can keep up with you. Steer clear of social networking identity theft by only allowing people you actually know (not even friends of friends who could be posing as identity thieves) to be friends and follow you.

Google Alerts: This is free and easy. Just setup a free Google Alerts notification for your full name. You’ll get an email every time your name shows up in a search online. This helps prevent it because you can see where, how, and why your name is being searched for online. If it looks suspicious, such as someone pretending to be you, you can take immediate action.

Post for Posterity: Everything you post online “lives” forever. Even if you think you’ve deleted information from a site it exists on people’s computers that they can then use for social networking identity theft-even years after you posted it!

Social Networking Identity Theft: Protect Yourself!

The moral of the story? Have fun on social networks, but be cautious. You never know who may want to be your “friend.”

A Modern Phenomenon - Social Networking

Filed under: Social Networking — @ 5:38 am

What is Social Networking?

Over recent years the world’s media has been full of outlandish stories about internet millionaires and billionaires. Most of these stories are also accompanied by details about how quickly the fortune was amassed. Along with the glut of stories on these topics various buzz words have been used like “Facebook”, “Twitter”, “MySpace” and many more. If you don’t spend a lot of time on the internet, or only use it for shopping on Amazon for example, then most likely the names of websites like those previously mentioned will not mean very much to you, but they are all very successful social networking sites that have made their owners many millions of dollars.

At its most basic social networking is the formation of social groups by individuals agreeing to associate together. Due to the internet being an almost completely global phenomenon these links formed between individuals are much easier to keep alive and active. Social networking sites enable a user to easily find and then keep in touch with school friends, workmates or expand their circle of friends by joining new groups arranged by interest.

This last category, groups formed by interest, has recently led to some real political change and interesting local events. An example of this recently was when a Facebook member organised 15,000 bikers to ride through Wootton Bassett, England, in order to support a charity for British troops. Politicians ignore social media at their peril.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/8566626.stm

The impact of social networking on political life even led British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to open a Facebook page of his own. This was received badly by the general public and led to many spoof sites also claiming to be the “real” Gordon Brown.

Safety and Security Concerns

Due to the massive popularity of social networking sites it is impossible to reserve a name as your own. This fact has unfortunately led to a large number of spoof sites, such as what happened with the British Prime Minister. This lack of authentication has caused a number of concerns, not least the care and protection of children from the interests of predatory paedophiles. It is entirely possible that the person you think you are talking to is someone else entirely.

Providing users are aware of the possible risks there should be no problem however. For the vast majority of member’s networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are a great source of fun and new friends.

Leading Social Networking Sites

Facebook

Facebook is currently the number one social networking site in the world with an estimated 400 million users. Facebook has shown year on year growth of over 100 percent with that growth currently showing little sign of coming to a halt. It is one of the longest established networking sites.

Twitter

Twitter is a relative newcomer on the social networking scene but has acquired many millions of users. Twtter has grown by over 900% per annum recently and so may well come to overtake Facebook in terms of absolute numbers of users eventually, but it appears that over 40% of new Twitter accounts fall into disuse and so the growth may slow due to abandonment of accounts.

Dave Felton writes on a variety of subjects through his blog and various websites. His web development activities recently led him to investigate social networking in general and take a deeper look at the social networking software currently available
