What is Social Networking?

They are online communities that connect a network of people with varying interests and locations around the world. In general, these websites are meant for connecting friends, business networking or just for staying in touch with each others. The main feature of these communities is “Active communication.”

Social Networks and Internet marketing:

As we all know that, doing business is all about building contacts, meeting new people and retaining the old relations. Making efficient use of social networks is a good strategy for Internet marketing. Your message or advertisement can be spread to a large group of social network users across the Internet. These way advertisements get a large exposure. Unlike SEO, social networks use links as source to get the traffic.

Internet Marketing Through Social Networks:

Among different techniques available for social Internet marketing, following can be useful:

1. Ping.fm:

Used for broadcasting to multiple social networks at a time. You need to sign up for an account here, give them your login information present at the social network sites (Orkut, MySpace). Whenever you want to pass on a message, you have to send that message to Ping.fm account via an email, and it gets broadcasted to those social sites at once. It saves a lot of time.

2. FriendFeed.com:

Instead of broadcasting the message, this site blends or centralizes your message or social feeds in one place. This way your network follows these posts on the blogs and other sites.

3. Presentlyapp.com:

It is a free web service that allows you to create your own private group.

4. Buzzable.com:

Use this, if you want to send notifications to all your partners and customers at a time.

The Components of social networking:

1. Connectors:

Often called the “social glue”, these people bring with them the others. For example, once you register on a social site, if you find it good enough, you call others to join it by sending friend requests. They are the people who are good at making friendships with others.

2. Mavens or the experts:

They are information specialists. These people advertise about your service via word of mouth. Once they find something useful, they suggest others to use the same and describe the features, increasing publicity and traffic.

3. Sales people:

They are the people with good convincing power. They transform unwilling people into buyers or mavens.

In all the Internet marketing techniques, the crucial thing is to determine your target market and make plan accordingly.

Driving Traffic to Your Website Through Social Networking

Driving Traffic to Your Website Through Social Networking
By Rose Sims

If you have a business presence online, you know your primary goal is to drive traffic to your website or blog where your product or service is offered. This used to be a daunting task. Years ago, you probably had to rely heavily on advertising and getting the top spot in search engines.

While being at the top of the results during a Google search is certainly the best way to get visitors to your site, it is not the focus of all site owners anymore. Through web analytics, website owners are finding out that social networking brings in just as many visitors to their pages — some even more so than search engines.

Social networking has become so much more than a way to interact with others in an informal environment. It has become a business tool, a way for companies to reach the masses with very little effort and time. While it is essential for businesses to actually engage social networking users, they are more likely to benefit from users spreading the word amongst themselves.

This means that a small campaign geared to a certain market with a social network can effectively reach all markets within the network through word of mouth. Unfortunately, if a campaign is unsuccessful with one market, or if it upsets even just a few people in your target range, the word that is spread can pack a punch against your business. Several large corporations have realized this after a few moms rallied against what they considered to be poor and improper advertising.

The key to success in social networking is to actively engage your market. Keep communications open, professional, and timely. Don’t spam your followers and other users with constant links to your site in order to drive them there. If you are genuine, networkers will sense this, and check out what you have to offer on principal alone.

Beware — social networkers are intelligent and highly sophisticated. Don’t mistake the “social” aspect of networking and some of the gimmicks these sites may offer as a reason for believing users are bored college students or unemployed individuals with an agenda. If you can respect the users these social networks have to offer, you may also enjoy an increase in traffic to your website or blog.

Social Networking As a Marketing Solution

Social Networking As a Marketing Solution
By Ryan C Murphy

Social networks, are by their nature designed to bring people together. If you have ever spent any time on MySpace you know how easy it is to accumulate large numbers of people in your friends list. The same can be said of Facebook, and the multitudes of copycats. It is easy to connect with people. The problem is actually getting anywhere as a business with it.

You see, people on these sites generally fall into one of two groups. Those that hate businesses on “their” site, and other businesses. A Band or Musician has a bit of an advantage, since most people fail to think of a band as a business, however that’s precisely what it is. Of course, most bands fail to see it that way either.

The trick to using a social network site to sell your products, is simple. Don’t do it. Now I can feel you pulling away, and thinking this is an attack on using social sites to market things, but it isn’t.

What you need to do is market your wares, without looking like you are. You must use the Social sites as social sites, but occasionally you can mention your business. Look at it as casual name dropping during a conversation. The difference is that a site like MySpace could mean there are thousands of people listening in to the conversation. If you play the game right, you will find a little drop of your businesses name here and there, wont sound any alarms and will bring people to you.

Now you should have a better idea of how to properly navigate the Social sites, get out there and start making some real friends.

Use Social Networking Sites to Promote

Filed under: Social Networking — @ 8:45 am

Use Social Networking Sites to Promote
By Anders Fredricsson

This article will cover some basic ideas about using social networking sites to promote your business. Social networking sites have been around for quite some times but they have just gained more popularity over the recent years with a few of the most well known being FaceBook and MySpace.

If you are not familiar with a social networking site is, I will quickly explain it here. Simply put these sites are designed for friends to keep in touch or so that people can find new friends of similar interests. When you sign up for the sites, you get a personal profile page where you can post a profile picture and some descriptions about you as well as list interests and such. The profile page can be customized and you can make it really personal. How much the profile can be customized vary on each of the sites.

I mentioned MySpace and FaceBook before since I know that both these sites allow business profile pages. And even though it´s not necessary to turn your profile page into a sales page, it can be very useful depending on what you are selling or promoting. I’ve seen people who just use their profile pages to socialize and they talk about the product to their friends and drive traffic to their sales pages that way.

Both of the techniques work and what you decide to go with is really up to you. Maybe you already have a FaceBook and MySpace page but you just didn’t use it for this before. However you decide to use these sites, remember to read and follow their rules since each sites rules are different.

What you also should do is to use several social networking sites. You can easily use Wikipedia to find a list of a bunch of networking sites to get you started. Apart from the ones I’ve mentioned here (facebook.com and myspace.com) I will also mention Yuwie, since Yuwie is a social networking site with all the regular features, but with the added perk of getting payed to use it. Because of this feature, Yuwie seems to attract a lot of people working online or being interested in working online, which might give you a pre-targeted market already (again, depending on what you’re promoting).

When you’ve signed up for a number of social bookmarking sites it´s time to start designing your profile. Make your profile eye catching and nice looking, don’t just plaster your profile with banners and links to the things you are promoting because that will just make it look bad and not very personal. Try to make the profile page sell by showing how the product helped you, if possible. And use the social networking sites for what they are, make friends.

Apart from being a good source of possible customers or such, you can also make good connections to people who work online and you might find new friends to learn from and share ideas with. And as a bonus, the social networking sites are also quite fun.
